Na een mooie zomer waarin we diverse festivals toegankelijk hebben gemaakt voor doven en slechthorenden – Dunya Festival, Mundial Festival, Bredase Havenfeesten, De Parade – en een aantal leuke televisie momenten hebben mogen beleven, staat er weer een nieuw jaar voor ons. Komende donderdag trappen we het seizoen af met Sens11 in Tilburg. Vervolgens op 24 oktober met Sens11 in Dordrecht en op 27 november een Sencity in de Watt in Rotterdam.
En in 2010 staat er een Sencity op het programma in … Brazilie, Kaapstad, Johannesburg, Sydney, Londen, Berlijn, Finland, Amsterdam en Utrecht.

SENS11 – 15/10/2009 & 24/10/2009
Aanstaande donderdag is er een Sens11 in 013 in Tilburg. Projectleider Bart Kokx heeft een puike line up met o.a. Erick E en Gregor Salto weten te strikken om helemaal uit hun plaat te gaan voor een doelgroep van verstandelijk gehandicapten, gemixt met het reguliere uitgaanspubliek.
Meteen de week erna is er een Sens11 in de Bibelot in Dordrecht. Ditmaal onder de leiding van Mendy Leguijt, in samenwerking met een groep studenten van de Academy for Leisure actief geweest om een mooi feest neer te zetten.

SENCITY – 27/11/2009
Op 27 november komt Sencity weer terug op de plek waar het allemaal is begonnen. In de voormalige Nighttown, dat tegenwoordig Club Watt heet, komen Boris, Erick E, Gregor Salto en Angel d’Amor acte de presence geven. Een heuse zintuigencomponist is bezig om alle disciplines op elkaar af te stemmen. Een groot aantal partijen uit Rotterdam, waaronder Swedoro, MEE Rotterdam, Gemeente Rotterdam en Your World hebben hun medewerking toegezegd waarmee dit evenement nu ook breedgedragen wordt. Een mooie erkenning vonden wijzelf! |

Dit evenement wordt ook gebruikt om de nieuwe site te lanceren. Lora van Rijn, die afgelopen zomer afstudeerde aan de Hogeschool van Utrecht met een 9,5 (!) is bijna klaar met het ontwerp van de nieuwe website www.your-sencity.com
Een site die geschikt is voor alle evenementen worldwide! Er is al een klein voorproefje te zien…. |

TERUGBLIK
Zoals gezegd, onze signdancers stonden deze zomer op diverse festivals. Twee optredens sprongen er wat ons betreft tussenuit vandaar dat we daar nog meer over kwijt willen. Op 7 augustus werd de voorstelling LOS! van Toneelgroep OostPool geschaduwtolkt! 9 acteurs hadden elk een gebarentolk naast zich. Er kwam veel belangsteling van de pers (groot artikel in de Telegraaf) maar nog leuker natuurlijk veel belangstelling van het dove publiek! Op 28 augustus hebben 3 signdancers een optreden van Jan Smit vertolk tijdens het televisie gala van de TROS CAP-awards.

| Afgelopen maand is er ook veel aandacht geweest in de media over het trilvest dat onze compagnon Sense Company heeft ontwikkeld. Skyway heeft TNO en Sense Company aan elkaar gekoppeld om een trilvest te ontwikkelen dat de muziek doorgeeft via trillingen die over het bovenlichaam lopen.
Ook leuk om te vertellen: in het BNN programma Ranking the Stars zitten tegenwoordig een aantal artiesten die een speciale band hebben met Skyway; Ali B, DJ Isis, Ellen ten Damme en Boris. Toen Ali B gevraagd werd wat nu een van de meest bijzondere momenten waren uit zijn carriere, noemde hij spontaan het optreden met signdancer op, waarop DJ Isis meteen haar ervaringen mededeelde.
Ook op televisie, maar dan in Zuid Afrika, een item over Sencity CapeTown, gemaakt door Deaf TV. Op deze link is het erg leuke filmpje te zien waarop vooral heel veel enthousiaste bezoekers te zien zijn:

Tot slot willen we nog iets ophelderen. Er bleek onduidelijkheid te zijn over onze bijdrage aan Wereld Doven Dag in Bergen op Zoom, afgelopen september. Graag grijpen we deze gelegenheid aan om te laten weten dat wij alleen de trillende Sensefloor hebben geleverd en verder geen organisatorische betrokkenheid hadden met het evenement, ook al werd er in de media uitingen vooraf gesproken over een Sense feest of zelfs een Sencity.
In de volgende nieuwsbrief hopen we meer informatie te kunnen geven over de edities in Brazilie, Zuid-Afrika, Sydney, Londen, Berlijn, Finland en Amsterdam, maar vooralsnog hopen wij jullie allemaal te zien op 27 november in Club Watt!

After a beautiful summer of making several festivals accessible for deaf and hearing impaired people - Dunya Festival, Mundial Festival, Bredase Havenfeesten, De Parade – and several very amazing television moments, we have a new year ahead of us. Next Thursday we will start the event season with a Sens11 in Tilburg, then the 24th of October a Sens11 in Dordrecht and on the 27th of November a Sencity at Watt in Rotterdam.

SENS11 – 15/10/2009 & 24/10/2009
Next Thursday a Sens11 is planned in the 013 Tilburg. Projectleader Bart Kokx secured himself of a fine line-up with Erik E, Gregor Salto a.o., who are about to go all the way for a group of mentally disabled, mixed with the regular crowd.
The week after that a Sens11 takes place in the Bibelot in Dordrecht, this time lead by Mendy Leguijt. In cooperation with a group students of the Academy for Leisure she has been active to create a wonderful party. SENCITY – 27/11/2009
On the 27th of November Sencity returns to its roots. The place where it all began. At the previous Nighttown, now called Club Watt, Boris, Erick E, Gregor Salto en Angel d’Amor are performing like they never did before! A real sensecomposer is busy tuning all senses to the same level. A great number of parties as Swedoro, MEE Rotterdam, Gemeente Rotterdam en Your World have agreed to cooperate, a nice recognition we thought! |

RETROSPECTIVE VIEW
As been said, our signdancers were on stage at several festivals last summer. There are two performances in particular we would like to tell something more about. On the 7th of August the performance of LOS!, by theatregroup OostPool, was interpreted. Nine actors had a interpreter beside them. Lots of attention from the press (a big article in de Telegraaf) but, even better, lots of interest from the deaf audience! The second performance was that of three signdancers who all interpreted one of Jan Smits’ shows at the gala of the TROS CAP-awards.

Last month there has been a lot of attention in the media about the vibration suit that our companion Sense Company has developed. Skyway connected TNO and Sense Company to each other to design a ‘Feel The Music’ Suit that translates the music into vibrations and sends them to the upper body.
What’s also a nice to share with you: in the BNN program Ranking the Stars are a couple of artists who have a special bond with Skyway as Ali B, DJ Isis, Ellen ten Damme and Boris. When Ali B was asked what one of his most special moments of his career was, he spontaneously told everybody about the performance with a signdancer, DJ Isis immediately responded with her experiences of Sencity.

Then finally we would like to clarify something. There appeared to be confusion about our contribution to World Deaf Day in Bergen op Zoom last September.
We would like to seize this opportunity to let everybody know we only took care of the vibrating Sense Floor. We did not have any further organizational involvement with the event. Despite all previously spoken utterances in the media about a Sense party or even a Sencity.
In the next edition of our newsletter we hope to inform you some more about the editions in Brazil, South-Africa, Australia, London, Berlin, Finland and Amsterdam, but for now we hope to see you all in Club Watt at the 27th of November! |
